A Turkish nonprofit group built a memorial in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina for the victims and martyrs of the 1992-95 Bosnian War.

Prayers were held for the martyrs at the opening ceremony in Doboj city.

The initiative was taken by the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB).

TDBB Secretary General Fahri Solak said he is pleased that the monument was built for those who defended the city with their lives.

Solak said they will continue their projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kemal Bratic, mayor of Doboj East, said ceremonies to commemorate the martyrs and victims will be held at this monument.

"This memorial is a message that we should not forget what happened during wartime," said Bratic.

The names of 340 martyrs and victims are etched on the monument.
