Turkey's national flag carrier on Thursday cancelled its reciprocal flights to the Sudanese capital Khartoum amid a military coup in the northeastern African country.

Departure flights from Khartoum airport were on hold and only arrivals are allowed.

The Turkish Airlines cancelled two reciprocal flights -- TK680 and TK681 -- to Khartoum.

Earlier Thursday, the Sudanese army announced the "removal" of President Omar al-Bashir and the imposition of a two-year "transitional phase".

In a televised statement, Defense Minister Awad ibn Auf also announced the imposition of a one-month curfew -- starting Thursday evening -- and a three-month countrywide state of emergency.
