Turkish security forces killed three PKK terrorists in the country's eastern province and northern Iraq, military said on Friday.

According to a statement issued by Turkish General Staff, two PKK terrorists were killed in an air operation in northern Iraq's Zap region on Sunday, as part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

In Turkey's Bingöl province, security forces also killed one terrorist in Genç district in an air-backed operation, the statement said.

Airstrikes on PKK targets in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, where the terror group has its main base in the Qandil region near the Iranian border, have been carried out regularly since July 2015, when the PKK resumed its armed campaign.

A number of weapons and ammunition were also seized during the operation.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and U.S. -- has killed more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians since taking up arms again.
