At least 10 Hezbollah fighters were killed Friday in an attack by Daesh terrorists in Syria's Homs district, according to websites linked to the group.

The pro-Hezbollah websites, which typically publish the names of Hezbollah casualties in Syria, posted photos of the 10 slain fighters, most of whom reportedly hailed from Lebanon's eastern Beqaa province.

Friday's attack, which involved car bombs and suicide bombers, reportedly occurred in the Hameima district of the Homs countryside.

According to a statement issued by the group's media wing, Hezbollah fighters and the Syrian army launched a subsequent counter-attack on Daesh positions, recapturing two sites they had lost earlier.

It did not confirm the reported death of its fighters in Syria, however.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has repeatedly said that his fighters would remain in Syria as long as was necessary to defend the war-torn country from "extremist attacks".

Since 2013, Hezbollah has openly fought alongside the Syrian regime.
