At least 12 people have been killed and more than 100 have gone missing after heavy rains last night caused floods in North Kivu province, emergency officials said Wednesday.

According to police, River Mumba and River Osso overflowed, destroying 100 houses. Five villages were affected by the river banks.

Gregory Kayembe, a police officer in the province confirmed the death toll, adding that 16 people are being treated at the local hospital for injuries.
