Turkish forces killed at least seven PKK terrorists during airstrikes in Turkey's southeastern and eastern provinces on Thursday, the military said.

According to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff, during a counter-terrorism operation Turkish fighter jets targeted PKK terrorists preparing for attacks on bases.

The statement added that two terrorists were killed in the rural area of Silopi district of southeastern Sirnak province.

Five terrorists were killed in the rural area of Diyadin district in eastern Agri province, said the statement.

It added that one PKK terrorist surrendered in Mardin's Nusaybin district on Thursday.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians.
