A soldier, who was critically wounded during in an anti-terror operation targeting the PKK in Turkey's eastern province of Bingöl Friday, succumbed to his wounds at a hospital in Elazığ on Saturday, according to the local governorship.

The soldier was initially hospitalized after he was injured by an improvised explosive placed by the terror group in a rural area of the Genç district, but later he was taken to Elazığ Firat University Hospital and he succumbed to his injuries there, said the Elazığ governorship.

Late on Friday, two other soldiers were wounded in the same incident and they are still being treated at the Bingol State Hospital.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
