Some 250 Iraqi Christian families forced to flee their homes by the Daesh terrorist group got help on Friday from the Turkish Red Crescent in a program overseen by Turkish Ambassador to Iraq Fatih Yildiz.

The food was distributed in Baghdad's Sayidat al-Nejat Cathedral.

"We were very pleased with the event, which was organized in coordination with the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad," Mukhlas Sisi, a priest at the cathedral, told Anadolu Agency.

"These families were really desperate," he added.

Pointing to how Iraqi Christians have suffered severely from Daesh terrorism, Sisi added: "We are deeply grateful to Turkey, which has stood by these families and given them a helping a hand."
