Five PKK terrorists surrendered to Turkish security forces in southeastern Şırnak province, the Turkish General Staff said on Tuesday.

The General Staff's statement said one of them was escaping from the PKK in Uludere district. The other four surrendered in Silopi district as they were escaping from the PKK's northern Iraq's camp.

In other counterterrorism operations, Turkish forces seized 406 anti-aircraft gun cartridges, four RPG-7 (rocket-propelled grenades) in a PKK hideout in the Yüksekova district of Turkey's most southeastern Hakkari province.

In the Hani district of southeastern Diyarbakır province, three shotguns and 127 kilograms of hashish (280 pounds) were seized, statement said.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,200 people, including women and children.
