At least four PKK terrorists were killed in recent clashes with security forces in eastern Turkey, according to local governors' offices.

The latest clash erupted on Thursday as security forces carried out a counter-terrorism operation in Aysaklı district of Bingöl province, killing three PKK terrorists, the provincial Governor's Office said.

It said that two other terrorists managed to escape.

On late Wednesday, at least one terrorist was killed when the provincial gendarmerie command and security forces conducted joint operations in the Göle district of the Ardahan province, and Şenkaya and Oltu districts of Erzurum province.

The Ardahan Governor's Office said in a statement that two soldiers were also hurt in the operations.

"Our forces continue operations with the support of our citizens," the statement added.

Later in Oltu, one terrorist who had been injured by security forces managed to escape before being taken into custody, according to a local administrator.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
