Fourteen German cities have applied to host Euro 2024 matches, the nation's football federation DFB said on Monday after the expiration of a bid deadline.

The DFB said that Berlin, Bremen, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Moenchengladbach, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart are the interested cities.

The DFB will select 10 final candidates by September 15 from the bidders. The Euro 2024 host nation is elected by the ruling body UEFA in September 2018.

"The enthusiasm in the cities, the quality of the stadiums and the great knowhow at all venues will be strong arguments in our bid," DFB president Reinhard Grindel said.
